Removed the half  wall between the living and dining areas
 

 

 Built two wide steps to move from the dining level to the living area. (Click image for larger view)
Used the same base paint and custom-painted crown-molding throughout, with the addition of a strong color wall for drama.

 

Installed new hardwood flooring throughout to integrate the space

Result: Improved flow and views for the entire level
