Many people in Monterey have expressed their
frustration with slow, dial-up access to the Internet. This is
particularly problematic for people running a business or
“telecommuting” for which Internet access is a business necessity, not
just a way to stay in touch with friends and do a little on-line
research.
With the support of the Monterey Select Board, I
investigated the options for high speed Internet access and I thank
them for the opportunity.
As of now, the choices for most residents are T1, which is very
expensive, or satellite for those with an unimpeded view of the
southern sky. DSL is being offered to a limited number of homes by Verizon since they have
now installed a switch in Monterey.
